We all know it’s a plants fault when it doesn’t get watered, right?  RIGHT?  I mean, if it needed water, it should have just asked.  Stupid ficus…

SparkFun Electronics sells a kit, called Botanicalls, that now lets house plants tell you when they need water, via Twitter.  Yep – your plants can tweet now.  Your Grandmother can’t figure it out after 37 phone calls to you, but your freakin’ plants can tweet!

When your plant needs water, it will post to let you know, and send its thanks when you give it a drink. It comes as a kit so that you can hone your soldering skills (or teach someone else) while you build a line of communication between you and your houseplant!

This kit comes with everything you need to get your plant tweeting in no time. The unit comes pre-programmed, but you can customize it with your own messages. The only thing you need to provide is a plant, network connection (and ethernet cable), and a power outlet.

Hopefully your plants will tweet less than Ashton Kutcher…
