When McLaren launched the F1 in 1992, it set the benchmark for hyper sports cars, and many argue that benchmark hasn’t been met since. So who better to take a run at knocking the F1 off the top of the hill than McLaren. Ahead of the Paris Auto Show, McLaren is leaking information about the F1 successor, the P1. Ron Dennis, Chairman of McLaren, says the P1 will be “the best driver’s car in the world on road and track. The P1 will be the result of 50 years of racing and road car heritage. Twenty years ago we raised the supercar performance bar with the McLaren F1 and our goal with P1 is to redefine it once again.”
As far as specs, McLaren is being pretty tight lipped. We do know, however, that it will be a lot faster and a lot more expensive than the current MP4-12C. Power will come from a 3.8-liter V8 pumping out 803hp, with a 160hp KERS system giving boosts of up to 963hp. Our response? Well, we can’t type it, but it rhymes with MOLY SCHMIDT! We are sure there will be plenty of carbon fiber and other space age components. As for driving position, we can only hope they return to the center driver setup.
As soon as more specs are out, we will update you!
